National Eucharistic Procession To Stop June 22 at the St. Augustine Church and Indian Mission
The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage – St. Junipero Serra Route will process to St. Augustine Catholic Church and Indian Mission in Winnebago, Nebraska, on June 22, 2024.
Father Mark Beran, Director and Pastor of the Mission and Holy Apostles Parish Family, was excited when the United States Catholic Conference on Bishops (USCCB) selected Northeast Nebraska as one of the holy sites and churches to stop along the SERRA Route.
“The procession is going out of its way, to come from Omaha to Winnebago and then to Council Bluffs!” he said. “I hope the procession will bring people together, with a spirit of faith in their hearts, to celebrate our Catholic faith.”
Most importantly, Fr. Beran and the team want pilgrims nationally and locally to experience Jesus’ love and leave yearning for more through the Eucharist.
The procession arrives at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 12:30 p.m. The pilgrims will be welcomed with an honor song on the drum and educated on St. Katerine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. In addition, pilgrims will learn about the Hispanic and Anglo parishes and Saints that shaped Northeast Nebraska.
Lunch will follow with the floor open to speakers.
At 2 p.m., the Eucharistic Procession will process from the Church to the Clans Sculpture Garden and Cultural Plaza and back to the Church. The St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City’s youth will sing and honor each one of the clan statues with roses.
Eucharistic Adoration will commence at 3 p.m. at the Church. Adoration with inculturation will include prayer, worship, as well as a variety of music.
The Benediction and Procession out will begin around 4 p.m. The Benediction will feature the song, “The Commission,” as well as a Native American blessing.
Mass will be celebrated for local pilgrims not continuing to Council Bluffs at 5 p.m.
